White: We ll make Holloway-Ortega immediately once Max is cleared

Get the Full StoryUFC president Dana White is not willing to waste any time in finalizing the featherweight title fight between Max Holloway and Brian Ortega. History was made on Saturday night during the co-main event fight of UFC 222. Undefeated top contender Brian Ortega dealt former lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar, the first stoppage loss of his storied career.

The momentous win of T-City also earned him a shot at Max Holloway s world featherweight title. Holloway, however, has yet to determine the timetable for his return as he heals up from injury.

UFC president Dana White was highly impressed with Ortega s performance and gave props to the 27-year-old fighter during the post-fight press conference.

The guy is so incredible and well-rounded, White said via MMA Fighting . You d think when he goes in and fights Frankie Edgar you d bet anything he s going to sub him if he s going to win. And then he goes and knocks him out in the first round. This kid is super talented, has incredible personality.

White is also not willing to waste any time booking this 145-pound title fight.

I just saw Holloway , he came on The Ultimate Fighter as one of the coaches, said White. He looks good, he s walking good and, I don t know, we gotta see what his doctor said and when he s cleared, we ll make that fight immediately.

And while there is still uncertainty in his immediate fighting future, Holloway seems to already have a fight date in mind.
