Shawn Mendes and Khalid paid tribute to gun violence victims with an emotional Billboard Music Awards performance

The 2018 Billboard Music Awards took place on Sunday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Shawn Mendes and Khalid took the stage to perform their latest song, "Youth."

They dedicated their performance to victims of gun violence and were joined on stage by students from Parkland, Florida's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School show choir.

This follows multiple shootings that have taken place at US schools in 2018, including one that took place in Parkland on February 14, 2018 and resulted in the deaths of more than 10 people.

Most recently, another school shooting took place at Santa Fe High School in Texas.
