Carlos Santana Is Doing Well After Collapsing Onstage From Dehydration And Heat Exhaustion

Get the Full StoryCarlos Santana gave fans a scare last night when he collapsed on stage during a concert at the Pine Knob Music Theater in Clarkston, Michigan. TMZ reports that the 74-year-old guitar legend passed out 4 or 5 songs into the show, right when he was about to play a song called, Joy . Apparently, Carlos realized something was off, sat down in front of the drums, and then collapsed backward. EMTs rushed to help, and staff blocked him from the audience with a large black tarp. Carlos managed to regain consciousness before he was taken to ER, and waved to fans as he was wheeled off the stage. Later, he took to Facebook to explain that he was doing well, he just forgot to eat and drink water, so I dehydrated and passed out. A rep told TMZ that Carlos was overtaken by heat exhaustion and dehydration. To quote the opening lines of the Santana and Rob Thomas 1999 mega-hit, Smooth, man, it s a hot one! So, you know, stay hydrated.

Carlos wife, Cindy Blackman, who is also Santana s touring drummer, posted another update on Instagram earlier today. She thanks everyone for their prayers and love, and writes that her husband is resting and doing very well! She adds that it was it was 100 degrees on stage and 114 under the lights so that coupled with not enough water is what caused the issue. Cindy reassures fans that he ll be as good as new soon! :

Santana is currently on tour with Earth, Wind, and Fire. Tonight s concert in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania has been delayed, but no word on the other 21 scheduled dates on the tour. After their summer shows, the band plans to return to Las Vegas, where they have a residency at the House of Blues. Last December, the band was forced to cancel several Vegas shows after Carlos had an unspecified heart procedure. Then, in February, he and the other members of the band tested positive for COVID and had to cancel additional dates.

This is all to say: take care of your health, Carlos Santana! 74 is the new 54 according to my mother s age math , so you re basically a young buck in the prime of his life. And, without you, who will entertain the baby boomer tourists of Vegas? James Taylor? Lionel Richie? Barry Manilow?! Gimme a fucking break.
